Guelph Police 2019 RIDE Statistics

Web posted on January 13, 2020

In November of 2019 members of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit participated in the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Festive RIDE kickoff which was held at the headquarters of the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Since that time, members of the Guelph Police Service participated in a number of RIDE spot checks within the City of Guelph with the goal of ensuring the safety of the public during what is a very busy time of year on the roadways. Since the kickoff, six RIDE programs were conducted.

Approximately 3,330 drivers were checked. 104 drivers were tested on the approved roadside screening device and of those tested, 4 drivers registered a fail and were arrested for the offence of operating a conveyance with 80 plus MG of alcohol in 100 ML of blood contrary to the Criminal Code. 1 of the four drivers arrested refused to provide a breath sample and was charged with that criminal offence.

5 of the drivers were issued with 90 day drivers licence suspensions.

14 drivers were issued a 3 day drivers licence suspension as their blood alcohol concentration put them into the "warn" category on the approved screening device.

2 drivers were asked to perform Standard Field Sobriety Testing in order to determine if their ability to operate the motor vehicle was impaired by their consumption of drugs. Both drivers passed these roadside tests.

2 Provincial Offence Notices were issued to drivers who were found to have cannabis readily available to them.

Special thanks to Magic FM and Domino's Pizza who provided coupons for a free large pizza which were given out to drivers who were found to have zero alcohol in their system while driving!
