North Wellington OPP Reports - Aug. 31, 2017

VEHICLES ENTERED OVERNIGHT IN MOUNT FOREST

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) - Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received numerous calls about unlocked vehicles being entered overnight August 26-August 27, 2017. The suspects conducted several vehicle entries in the Town of Mount Forest surrounding the Ayrshire Street area as well as the Albert Street area.

The suspects appeared to target cash and loose change, leaving several items of value behind. The removed identification and credit cards from vehicles and threw those items in nearby ditches and front lawns.

Police are looking for anyone with any information regarding this or any other criminal activity to contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE LOCATED

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) - On Thursday August 31, 2017 at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Wellington North Fire Services responded to a suspicious abandoned crate in a vacant lot behind a business on Durham Street West, Mount Forest.

Workers discovered a wooden crate that had suspicious contents in it that could not be identified as non-hazardous.

OPP and Wellington North Fire Services attended and are actively investigating. The business has been partially evacuated until the contents have been identified. Foster Street was temporarily closed but is now reopened.

OPP continue to investigate the source of the package, however nothing indicates that it's placement was meant to be malicious.

POLICE FOUND MISSING LOCAL MAN

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) - On Tuesday August 29, 2017 Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a found dog and possible missing person near a trail on Birmingham Street East at Church Street, Mount Forest. A witness had seen a local man, familiar to the area but name unknown, walking his dog as per usual. A short time later the dog was found unattended. The dog has since been turned over to animal control.

With the assistance of the public the OPP have located the male in good health and are in the process of connecting him to his dog. The OPP would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter.

UPDATE - CHARGES LAID IN FATAL COLLISION ON WELLINGTON ROAD 9

(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) - On Tuesday May 16, 2017 at approximately 10:00 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fatal collision involving two motor vehicles on Wellington Road 9 at Concession Road 6, near Moorefield. A pickup truck ran a stop sign and collided with a minivan.

The driver and passenger of the minivan were rushed to local hospital where the female passenger was pronounced deceased. The male driver of the minivan sustained non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was cleared by paramedics at scene.

The passenger was identified as 69-year-old Brenda JONES of West Grey Township.

34-year-old Gary MARCOUX of Palmerston has been charged with Fail to Yield to Traffic on Through Highway contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on October 4, 2017 to answer to the charge.
