DRUNK DRIVER CHARGED WITH ESCAPING LAWFUL CUSTODY

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) - On Saturday August 5, 2017 at approximately 3:00 a.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer located the subject of a traffic complaint on North Water Street West, Mount Forest.

While speaking with the driver the officer observed signs of impairment by alcohol. The officer attempted to arrest the driver who broke free and fled on foot. The following day the driver surrendered himself to police.

21-year-old Dean Michael HERSHEY of Arthur has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Escape Lawful Custody contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on September 5, 2017 to answer to the charge.

MAN CHARGED WITH BREAKING INTO VENDING MACHINE

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) - On Saturday August 5, 2017 Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a theft from a laundromat on Elgin Street South, Mount Forest. On Wednesday August 2, 2017 at approximately 8:30 p.m. a vending machine was been broken into, $200 in cash was stolen and the machine sustained approximately $300 worth of damages.

Video surveillance allowed OPP to identify the suspect.

35-year-old Joseph Daniel STAFFORD of no fixed address was charged for Theft Under $5,000, Mischief Under $5,000 and for Failing to Comply with Probation Orders contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on September 8, 2017.

RACING CHARGE

(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) - On Saturday August 12, 2017 at approximately 2:00 p.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, Mapleton. The officer observed a male driving a 2017 Mazda at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 141 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

55-year-old Leland Jeffrey MARTIN of Guelph has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on September 20, 2017.His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

3 PEOPLE CHARGED AFTER DRUG WARRANT EXECUTED

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) - On August 17, 2017, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at 258 Main Street West in Palmerston. As a result, OPP seized a quantity of methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, marihuana and hashish. As a result of the investigation, three people have been charged.

40-year-old Shannon Dawn GOTTFRIED of Palmerston was arrested and charged for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Cannabis Resin (<1g) and Possession of Cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). She was held for Bail.

41-year-old Michelle M. CHOMA of Palmerston was arrested and charged for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Cannabis Marihuana (<30g), Possession of Cannabis Resin (<1g) and Possession of Cocaine contrary to the CDSA. She was also charged with Failing to Comply with a Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code. She was held for Bail.

49-year-old Donald Norman STEPHENS of Palmerston was arrested and charged for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Cannabis Resin (<1g) contrary to the CDSA. He was also charged with four counts of Failing to Comply with a Prohibition Order and Possession of a Prohibited Device contrary to the Criminal Code. He was held for Bail.
