North Wellington OPP Reports - July 26, 2017

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) - On Tuesday July 25, 2017 at approximately 9:30 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to stop a south bound vehicle for speeding on Highway 6 north of Kenilworth. The speeding 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe then took an extreme evasive action and drove off the road, through a ditch and crossed a hay field attempting to conceal the vehicle behind a row of hay bales.

OPP officers located and detained the four occupants of the vehicle. A passenger in the vehicle was found to be in possession of marijuana. Further investigation revealed that the driver was under multiple driving suspensions.

45-year-old male Steven FURNIS of Kitchener has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on August 29, 2017.

20-year-old male Sorror ANISS of Kitchener has been charged with three counts of Driving While Suspended and Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on September 6, 2017.

The vehicle was impounded as per statue.

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) - At approximately 3:00 p.m. today members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Wellington North Fire Service and Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a four vehicle collision on Highway 6 Kenilworth, Township of Wellington North.

Six occupants have been transported by land ambulance for a variety of injuries however none are considered to be serious.

Highway 6 is currently closed between Sideroad 7 and Sideroad 5 while OPP investigate and to facilitate clean up.
