Update in OPP Investigation of Barricaded Harriston Man

As a result of the investigation, the 36 year old Mapleton Township man has been charged with Criminal Harassment and 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Undertaking, all contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He remains in custody, awaiting his next Guelph court date of January 25, 2013.

OPP do not release the names of accused persons in domestic matters to protect the identity of the victims.

(HARRISTON, ON) Members of the County of Wellington Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the assistance of West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) members are investigating a barricaded person incident at a Lorne Street residence in the town of Harriston.

At approximately 11:00pm on December 18, 2012 County of Wellington OPP officers attended the Lorne Street Harriston address for an ongoing incident. The 36 year old male occupant refused to communicate with police. Due to safety concerns for all parties involved in the investigation, containment was set up around the residence, and OPP ERT and TRU members were called to assist.

At approximately 9:00am, December 19, 2012 a 36 year old male was taken into custody without incident. He will remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
